How Cheryl Learnt Professional 3D Animation in 90 Days and Started Working for Razer

Had “creator’s block” lately

Don’t you love it when you get all fired up to start an exciting new project

Then when you get down to it, you just don’t know how to take the first step. It’s like your mind went blank when you least expected it.

And as a result, you lose a bit of confidence because you realize there are still some techniques you don’t know how to do.

This is exactly how Cheryl felt when she started learning 3D.
Before getting into this space, Cheryl started out as a gaming and interior design professional at her job.
Not before long, she was assigned to work on product animations with her team and slowly picked up the skill from working on those projects.
But after a time, she wasn’t satisfied with learning by following what others were doing at her job. She wanted to nail down the essentials with a clear roadmap and hone her skills from there.
Once she discovered the 3D program and decided to enroll, she dove right into the curriculum.
Just after 90 days, she completed not 1… not 2… but THREE professional 3D animated commercials on her own. 🤯
Here’s a snippet of one of the commercials Cheryl has created during the program:
This is quite an achievement considering how often people start a few creative projects but never complete them.
In an interview, Cheryl shared with me 4 things she did to stay on top of the program – even with a full-time job:
👉 She watched every training video – with more focus on animation, lighting, and rendering for her specific goals.
👉 She’d put every lesson into practice – and would rewatch some trainings to make sure she learned the steps properly.
👉 She made time to go through the program – reserving 3 hours after work to practice her 3D skills.
👉 She had set an achievable goal of completing 1 animated commercial every month.
This was how she was able to stay consistent with completing large projects for her portfolio.
After achieving this goal, Cheryl feels more confident in creating 3D commercials and no longer has to rely on others to get the basics down…
Because she already knows the basics like the back of her hand. As for her secret to pushing through those moments when she could’ve stopped midway, this is what she said:

“Start small and take it one step at a time…”

Makes sense! A new project isn’t as intimidating when you start with something you already know how to do and keep working on the project to its completion.
So, if you’ve had a goal or a project in mind but don’t know exactly how to break it down into small, manageable steps.
